EditorPlain language and clear communication
I offer two standard types of training sessions on plain language:
- a 1-hour didactic seminar or
- a 3-hour interactive workshop.
But I’m always happy to tailor a training session to your organization’s needs.
I’ve given plain language training to a variety of organizations, including Courthouse Libraries BC, the Women’s Health Research Institute, the City of New Westminster, SFU’s Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, the Comox Valley Community Health Network, Northern Health Authority, and the Vancouver Foundation.

I also teach these plain language courses:
- Plain Language in Health Literacy, Simon Fraser University Continuing Studies: This course helps students communicate health information in an accessible way. The course is four weeks long and all online (asynchronous). It’s an elective of the Plain Language Certificate program. Students learn by completing two assignments and participating in weekly discussions.
- Writing Well: Plain Language, UBC Extended Learning: This course gives a general overview of the plain language process, from audience analysis to content creation and design and through to user testing. It is a synchronous course offered via Zoom over three 3-hour sessions, one per week.
